Stunning architecture, classical buildings and exquisite gastronomy: the Chamberí district of Madrid has become a synonym for fine dining in the city. Foodies of all generations and taste gather around to enjoy a new culinary experience each day of the week.

This neighbourhood has recently become the Foodie Capital of Madrid as it is internationally renown for housing endless high-quality restaurants using fresh, seasonal products and a wide variety of cuisine.

Chamberí daily attracts a diverse clientele since everybody can find the perfect establishment for their specific needs. From Executives meeting for business lunches, to ladies enjoying a cup of tea to a younger crowd sharing beers and tapas, all who seeks to savour the best natural products available in Spain rush to the district.

Gourmet tapas and shareable dishes are the protagonists at every restaurant in the Chamberí neighbourhood. Hence, you can enjoy a taste of everything and discover your new favourites.

Now that we have described the ambience within Madrid’s foodiest district, we now list our recommendation of its best gastronomic experiences.

5 restaurants you must try in Chamberí

La Cabra: This restaurant is known as the temple of luxurious tapas. Famous for it’s ‘bocadillo de calamares’ a fried calamari baguette with zesty jalapeño-lime mayonnaise. The restaurant is divided into several areas: the lounge, the bar where you can enjoy a drink and a tapas after work and the main dining room. On the lower level is hidden the most exclusive setting on the premises: the private room with a view on the extensive wine cellar.

Kappo: A high Japanese cuisine that stands out from your regular sushi offer as the chef, Mario Payán himself prepares and explains the elaboration of each dish to his guests. He has been awarded with creating the most exquisite nigiri sushi in Madrid. Plus, Kappo receives every morning the freshest seafood and fish sourced from the Spanish coast.

Alpe: A very cozy establishment with only 10 tables. You can eat à la carte or choose one of its two menus: “Cervino” including 10 dishes or “Maggia” which consists of an appetizer, starter, first, second and dessert. One of its star appetizers consists of a modern version of vermouth: vermouth infused sphere accompanied with a crisp of olives. For main dishes we recommend the salmon with pineapple foam and the ‘Causa Limeña’ married with anchovies.

Lúa: Eating in a Michelin star restaurant at an affordable price is possible in Lúa. This restaurant offers traditional Galician cuisine with a modern twist using exclusively fresh Galician products. Chef Manuel Domínguez describes his menu as “traditional cuisine of the 21st century”. In the bar area you can enjoy tapas and drinks and in summer they open a lovely terrace. At Lúa, you can taste exquisite appetizers made with fresh Galician products such as seafood salad, Pulpo á feira or prawn bravas. This simple menu is based on the highest quality products and harmony of flavour.

Fratelli Figurato: A cozy and popular Neapolitan pizzeria that has already conquered the entire Chamberí neighbourhood with their selection of light pizza doughs (long-fermented traditional, whole grains, 5 grains). Guest fall in love with this because their dishes contain only 100% natural and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant is run by the Figurato brothers: Riccardo, the pizzaiolo, and Vittorio, the manager. Their secret? An electric oven brought directly from Naples, the newest Italian technology available since the wood-burn oven. The refractory stone allows the pizzas to cook instantly and does not burn them. Their menu offers a wide variety of traditional and modern pizzas, which can always add your favourite ingredient. Something unimaginable in a traditional Neapolitan pizzeria!
