Best shopping experiences in Madrid

Darya Homes on March 6, 2020

The Spanish capital is one of the main shopping centres in the country as every year it receives millions of visitors eager to purchase from local fashion and international brands. Just last year, in 2019, more than 7.6 million tourists came to visit us attracted, among other reasons, by the idea of a fun shopping spree in the city. Today, we walk you through the best shopping routes in Madrid.

We begin our shopping journey within the city centre on avenue Gran Vía, commonly known as the Spanish Broadway. Throughout 1.3 kilometres, Gran Vía holds every major brand imaginable, both Spanish and international, and numerous flagship stores. From the unmistakable local brands such as Zara, Oysho, Massimo Duti, Pull and Bear, Berska to renown designer Salvador Bachiller, Tous and Kiko Milano to Adidas, Nike and Real Madrid Official store everybody finds their favourites on Gran Vía. Plus, the street is filled with musical theatres show and gourmet places to eat.

Just around the corner, you can continue your shopping experience walking down Calle Preciados. All year round, this pedestrian street is one of Madrid’s busiest holding countless small boutiques and brand shops. Also, it holds two of the capital most beloved department stores: El Corte Inglés (Home and Apparel) and FNAC (electronics). Follow calle Preciados downwards and you will arrive directly to Madrid’s main square: Puerta del Sol. Walk upwards and you will find yourself in the mythical Plaza del Callao.

A little further to the west you will find the extensive Fuencarral street. A kilometer and a half of where alternative and trendy boutiques prevail over traditional brands. This particular street delights every type of shopper: Fashion, Footwear, Cosmetics and Home Decor are all available within a few meters. When you reach the end of Fuencarral, towards the Quevedo roundabout, you will find a wide variety of restaurants and bars, offering local and international cuisines, where you can rest after a busy day of ‘madrileño’ shopping.

Now, we move away from the city centre in order to reach the most exclusive shopping experience available in the city: Calle Serrano. Within the heart of the prestigious Salamanca district you will find more than 50 high luxury brands: Chanel, Loewe, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Gucci to name a few.

But what about shopping malls?

The city also offers outstanding shopping centres where, in addition to shopping, visitors can enjoy a complete leisure experience thanks to exquisite restaurants and numerous activities . If you choose the indoor option, we recommend the following:

  • Plaza Norte 2: Located in the municipality of San Sebastián de los Reyes this 50,000 square meters commercial centre offers more than 225 stores over two floors. Everything you need to enjoy a family day of shopping.
  • Plenilunio: This particular location stands out thanks to its fabulous amenities including a Cinema with 13 viewing rooms, a Professional Bowling alley with 32 tracks and a Wellness Centre that has become one of the largest urban spas in the capital with its 4,500 square meters.
  • La Gavia. Just south of Madrid, you will find the commercial centre that attracts all the fashionistas and foodies with a wide variety of flagship stores and restaurants.
